Mark knew he was behind on dealing with... something.

This summer has been busy, you see... busy, hazy, it's all the same thing!

After graduation, the crew at Empire Records threw a big party for Mark. And pretty much nearly every weekend - and sometimes during the week too! - it's been party time for Mark. It was summer! He was done school! And so there was lots of drinking and smoking up, and everything had gone by in a blur...

... and he was forgetting to do something.

Mark came in through the back door of Empire Records one afternoon, to work the closing shift, smiling and whistling to himself.

"Oh. Hello, Mark."

Mark swung around, and saw Lucas come out of the cash room. And it was enough to make Mark's usually foggy brain remember.

Right. This was the thing he had to deal with. In hopefully a good way.

Mark blasted one of his huge smiles. "Lucas!" he said enthusiastically. "Hi! Guess we're working together tonight!"

He was late. He was late. Mark was very very late!!!

Joe was going to kill him.

Mark pushed hard with right foot, then pulled it up to rest on the skateboard as he weaved in and out of the crowd on the sidewalk. He almost hit a dog, and an old woman, and then a young dude playing hacky sack, but this was Mark and he was skateboarding and so, of course, no one was injured during the process.

Well. Except for Mark, when he almost hit that car. But he didn't! And so he was fine.

Finally, he arrived to the back of Empire Records, and jumped off his skateboard. He popped it up and grabbed it, and took the stairs up two at a time.

"I'm late, I'm late," he muttered under his breath, shoving the back door open dramatically and rushing in.

And then, suddenly, his feet were up in the air, and Mark fall on his back. Hard. His skateboard somehow ended up clipping him in the side of the face. So much for not being injured on - by? - his skateboard that day.

"Owwwww," Mark moaned loudly.

"Quite the entrance, Mark," Joe said dryly, looking down from his office. It was off to the side of the room, and elevated by a couple of steps, and Mark had a theory it was to look down on the little worker bees of his.

( Although, right at this moment, it wasn't hard for anyone to look down on him. )

Final exams are done, WOOO HOOOOOOO.


Things I want to happen now:

- NEVER WRITE EXAMS AGAIN. !!!

Mark had changed his shirt.

He took off his blue shirt and put on one of the orange shirts he had. Because he said that he would. When Lucas asked him about his eyes and changing colours with different coloured shirts and then kissed Mark, Mark had left saying he had to go home and try on one of his orange shirts. Even though they were dirty.

But, that's what he did because that's what he told Lucas he would do. And he didn't want to lie to Lucas, and that's why he was standing in front of his mirror in a dirty orange shirt.

He leaned into the mirror to look at his eyes. To see if they really had changed colours like Lucas mentioned.

His pupils were so dilated that they almost looked just black and he couldn't tell if they were a different colour then they had been with the blue shirt.

Mark leaned back and picked up the bong off his dresser, taking another long, strong hit.

Somethings didn't change.

Except for his shirt. Mark's shirt was changed.

Mark thought that maybe something else had changed too, but he was too high to remember what right now.

OMG I almost forgot about this. hahahaha.

Mark stood outside of the door to Lucas' apartment, having just been buzzed up. He wasn't nervous - there was no reason to be nervous! This was Lucas! And Lucas was a friend!

Just a friend.

Despite what Mark's tummy sometimes told him but Mark's tummy was wrong because Mark was pretty sure he liked girls and he was completely sure Lucas was a boy. And he was pretty sure that Lucas liked girls too and Mark knew Mark was a boy and not a girl and so, really, Mark's tummy probably just ate a bad batch of tacos from the Taco Place down the street from Eddie's apartment.

Mark giggled. Because he knew he was being silly.

And so tonight was just a night between friends and he liked hanging out with Lucas a lot. A movie and some chips and Mark chattering away while Lucas inserted a couple lines of wisdom Mark didn't understand and it was all good!

( Mark practically bounced in spot as he reached out and knocked on the door. )

I was at this awesome party last night at Eddie's house for New Year's. Not tooooo big, but his apartment was pretty packed with a lot of our mutual friends... and some people I didn't know! And it was fun to talk to them!! And talk to them I DID.

So, over a big bowl, I was asked, "Mark? Would you ever make giving up pot one of your New Year's Resolutions? Can you handle it?"

Am I going to sound like some sort of addict if I say no? Because I'm NOT, by the way. I'm not! It's just pot, and I like it. Some people drink alcohol or eat chocolate and have sex all the time... not that I wouldn't mind doing that stuff more frequently but I'm just trying to make a point!

I could handle it if I want to. But I don't want to!

I don't think I should have to handle it. I function quite well, thank you very much! I have made promises to Joe to not smoke up before or during work I slipped ONCE but I didn't know Eddie spiced up the brownies! and I go to school usually and I never ever do it and drive or be irresponsible or anything like that!

Being this way is who I am, and what I like. I've been told it's just a phase and maybe that's true but maybe it's not! As long as my life is my life and I'm happy and stuff, I don't think it's a big bother. Nope.

Although I soooo should have been around in the 70s. I probably would have made a rocking Flower Child. Heee! I would have worn BIG bell bottom pants that would have, like, tripped other people over they were so big, hahahah, and then had a cool girlfriend who didn't like to wear a bra or maybe a boyfriend who liked smoking up with me or something I DON'T KNOW OKAY I don't know if I can handle those sort of thoughts right now where IS my weed...

Mark doesn't make a lot of money, and he's usually pretty strapped for cash. Still, he has good friends and he wanted to get each of them something, at least. So he does what he can with his budget, and this is what they get.

The holiday season is B.U.S.Y!!! Busy! Busy here at Empire Records and I always have to work a lot because, well. Busy! Because, like, people are out shopping and stuff but they aren't always buying sometimes they're just looking or trying to steal merchandise (SHOPLIFTERS!!!!!) or maybe just making a big ol' mess of the shelves as they browse or having sex in the sound booths but sometimes they're just listening to music and then they go to the till with a whole bunch of stuff but as it's being rung through they decided to have items put back because they don't want to spend that much or they've over-picked-up stuff and then I have to run around the store restalking it with the stuff they want to put back and mop up the puddles from the melted snow that fell off their boots and it's just craaaaaaaaaazy!

I LOVE the holidays. Even when work makes me want to go iiiiiiiiiinsane!

Because the rest of the holidays rock! Parties and presents not that I usually get a lot, especially from my dad, but that's okay and eggnog (spiked, of course! Otherwise it's just icky) and carols. OH MUSIC. Even I like Christmas music, even if it's cheesy. But I like when bands make it NONcheesy. Oh, oh, oh and all the lights everywhere lighting things up and sometimes it looks kinda trippy but mostly it's just coool. And oh NO SCHOOL for two weeks which is awesome and gives me time to go to fun parties and hang out with my friends and watch Christmas movies and a whole bunch of fun stuff that only happens around the holidays!! Yay! Hahaha.

Seriously, though, I do like the holidays. They're a good time of year and make me feel all, I don't know, joyful and stuff.

Except for when I want to smack customers. But that isn't always. Just sometimes. Mostly, I'm joyful and stuff! :D



(And, okay, on a completely random non-prompt note: My new layout makes me LAUGH. It's not Christmas. I shoulda picked Christmas. But it's TOASTIE AND OH JAY. Hahahhahahaaaa!)

I don't understand....


Lucas.


Lucas is my co-worker. And friend! I consider him a friend first but he's a co-worker with me at Empire Records too. It's where I met him. Anyway! So, I don't understand him anymore. I used to! Well, as much as I understand anyone, I understood him. But then this day happened? It was a crazy day! Lucas stole $9000 but it was for a good reason! And then Lucas changed.

He uses big words now. On purpose, I think. And he always spouts off quotes and, like, psalms and stuff now. Like, confusing metaphorical type of things that have deeper meaning underneath the top meaning and it's hard. Like, I used to understand him. He used to be Lucas! Now he's Lucas. And the crazy day is over now and so is all the crazy stuff and it's all fixed so Lucas should be fixed now. But he's not! He's still confusing for me. I don't understand him.


I also don't really understand that funny feeling in my tummy when I see him now. It must be because he makes me feel so confused. And stupid. Yes, that's it!
